In today's world the quality of gear has come a long way, and the different between a 40,000$ camera vs a 5000$ camera is very less. And even that difference can be seen only to the professional discerning eye.
And now the use of a particular equipment has more to do with convenience, client requirements, reliability slow motion capability, where the video is going to be displayed etc. A professional can bring more out of an old camera rather than an amateur with an expensive camera in his hand.
And for a video the quality of the audio is as much important as the image. It is important to get a clean synced sound channel, without clipping. And so are the lights. Whether you are bringing more lights to the space or you are blocking the lights, lighting plays a very important role in setting a mood for the image.
We use fujifilm xh2s line of cinema cameras becuase they come with autofocus, good dynamic range, beautiful colours and easy to work with. A sennheiser 400 is used for audio input, and we have other accessories like tripods gimbals lights etc.
We use zoom lenses as they are very flexible. We don't concentrate much on primes for the reason that we don't require a background blur, and we dont waste much time changing lenses.
Usually the videos are recorded in log format, capturing the highest dynamic range and 10 bit colours and then converted to rec 709 by a lut. Sometimes when situation calls for we might also use a fujifilm film simulation, which creates beautiful film colours in camera itself avoiding spending more time in post production.
The final clip will be a 4k clip, with all the editing completed. It will be interspersed with b-rolls, background score, interviews and slow motion clips where needed.
